Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)

What is IPT?

Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) was developed in the 1970s and is a type of therapy that utilises a uniquely structured model for the treatment of mental health issues.

What can it help with?

IPT was originally created to be a short-term treatment for depression. However, it has also been shown to be an effective treatment for a number of other conditions including:

  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Borderline personality disorder (BPD)
  • Dysthymia
  • Eating disorders

What are the Benefits?

IPT can help you understand how your relationships affect your life. The goal is two-fold: to help you function better socially and to reduce negative feelings by relieving your depressive symptoms.
